Automate 2023 Recap

Machine Vision Store’s Brian Durand visited the Automate 2023 trade show in Detroit this week. He was pleased to meet so many of our partners there, both suppliers and customers.

Here's a few highlights:

  • Basler was showing their broad array of cameras, lenses and frame grabbers. Higher-resolution designs continue to be added to their large portfolio.
  • Kowa has released their VM Series lenses. These large 2” (32 mm) format lenses are designed for cameras having 3.1 μm or larger pixels.
  • Both Opto-Engineering and Schneider Optics featured new products with integrated liquid lenses. The ability to quickly adjust lens magnification and/or focus delivers greater value.
  • Photoneo has released a camera driver for Cognex VisionPro 9.8. This enables VisionPro users to measure, inspect, locate, identify, and align using Photoneo’s high-quality 3D data.
  • SVS-Vistek was there with their TKH sister companies. SWIR, polarization, and new UV cameras are solving what would otherwise be difficult imaging tasks.
  • Zebra | Matrox had a large booth, front and center. Design Assistant version 9.1, which includes a pretty incredible deep-learning OCR tool, will be released in a matter of days.
  • Zeiss brought a nice selection of their industrial lenses. While we didn’t see anything new, we did learn that most models will operate across a wide temperature range -- wide enough to accommodate both Minnesota winters and Texas summers.
